Report: Germany mulls nationalizing Rosneft’s Schwedt refinery

BERLIN, Sep 15 (PRIME) -- Germany is considering nationalizing an oil refinery of Russian oil major Rosneft in Schwedt, German daily Spiegel reported on Thursday quoting its own information.

Several possible options of the government’s ownership in the refinery are being discussed, including a direct transfer of the company to the state and a transfer into stewardship. The options are legally possible as the government made a similar decision earlier regarding gas giant Gazprom’s unit Gazprom Germania, Spiegel reported.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Federal Economy Minister Robert Habeck, and Brandenburg’s Minister-President Hubert Dietmar Woidke are to present details of the planned measures regarding the refinery at a news conference on Friday, the daily reported.

The Schwedt refinery supplies diesel fuel and kerosene to Eastern Germany, and it receives crude directly from Russia through the Druzhba pipeline. Oil pumping through the pipeline should stop at the end of 2022.
